Weight Loss Boot Camp: Just DO it!

Look back to 2010. What were your health goals? Did you accomplish them? If you didn’t, what was missing?

 

It’s 2011 and the year to actually accomplish your goals! This year I’m focusing on TAKING ACTION. No more sitting around learning about what worked for other people. I’m going to take daily action and just DO it!

 

When setting a goal. I look into the future. What do I want to accomplish by January 1, 2012? Then work backwards.

 

What will I need to do each quarter to accomplish that my year-end goal? What will I need to do each month to accomplish my quarter goal? What are my weekly actions to accomplish each month’s goals?

 

Example:

 

By January 1, 2012 I will be lose 100 lbs, decrease 25% body fat, decrease 10 inches on my hips, and be a size 8.

 

By September 2011, I will be lose 75 lbs, decrease 20% body fat, decrease 8 inches on my hips, and be a size 10.

 

By June 2011, I will be lose 50 lbs, decrease 15% body fat, decrease 6 inches on my hips, and be a size 14.

 

By March 2011, I will be lose 25 lbs, decrease 10% body fat, decrease 4 inches on my hips, and be a size 16.

  • By February 2011, I will be lose 15 lbs, decrease 7% body fat, decrease 2 inches on my hips, and be a size 18.
  • By January 2011, I will be lose 10 lbs, decrease 4% body fat, decrease 1 inch on my hips, and be a size 18.
  • Each week this month I will go to 3 cycling classes, 2 BODYPUMP classes, and 1 boot camp. I will eat 6 small meals of lean protein and low-glycemic carbs. I will enjoy 2 glasses of wine a week. I will journal my exercise, nutrition, and how I feel every day. I will have fun while exercising and do an outdoor activity on the weekend with a friend.

 

After you have a weight loss plan of action, SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! Tell everyone what you are up to. Accountability is the key to your success. Do you have a friend who has similar weight loss goals? Work together and help each other accomplish them in 2011.

From Negativity to Positivity

 

Feel like your world is crashing? The person who the world sees you to be is not present?

 

 

That’s how I have felt these past 2 weeks from my hip and knee pain. Back in January, I had just moved to San Diego and was teaching 15 group exercise classes a week! Bam! My hip started hurting.

 

I tried to ignore it to pay the bills, then it got worse. So over the months I slowly cut back teaching. Fast forward to September, the hip pain is so intense that I can’t teach classes or work out!

 

Not being able to work out is the toughest part. That is who I am! I love seeing my students lose weight, get stronger, and break through their walls. For the past 15 years, I have had injury after injury, food allergies, and sickness after sickness. It just feels like the body drama never stops!

 

Today while leading a conference call, I told the group that I am pissed off at my body! Then I started thinking about all the opportunities that have been popping up in my life.

I have spent the past 2 weeks being pissed at my circumstances verses accepting and embracing them as a gift. What is the deal about me complaining about getting weekly massages, bi-weekly massage, chiropractor, ultrasound, getting to sleep in, and stay home from teaching classes?

Sugar Cravings: How to Overcome Them

Why is it that when you set a weight loss goal all these cravings appear for foods that you normally don’t eat? Today after I burned 585 calories during an hour long TRX class, the craving for Mexican food came; salsa, black beans, guacamole, chicken, and rice.

 

Cravings can put a halt on weight loss. It takes willpower and determination to overcome them. Why do we have cravings? Several studies say that cravings are due to a diet is lacking in variety and therefore the body craves the food that it needs.

 

When I have a craving it’s normally for a sugary high fat food, so let’s look at another option. Current research suggests that “it’s all in your head”. The areas in the brain that are responsible for memory and sensing pleasure are the culprits.  Another, recent study suggests that the combination of sugar and fat give a calming effect.

 

Tips for overcoming sugar and fat cravings:

  1. Give in to the craving. Buy a smaller low-calorie, low-fat chocolate brownie rather than baking and eating an entire pan.
  2. Keep easy access snack foods in your car or office. Try 1oz of raw almonds and a small orange.
  3. Eat balanced small meals every 2-3 hours. Skipping meals will make you become extremely hungry and can lead to overeating.
  4. Drink a glass of water and grab a piece of gum.
  5. Do something fun to lower your stress. Go for a jog or read a good book at the pool.
